Course Overview

The BA (Hons) Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing with Foundation Year at Newman University is designed to give students a thorough understanding of counselling theories and practices in mental health and wellbeing. The foundation year helps students build confidence and academic skills, providing an alternative route to higher education. The course offers an excellent foundation for further training in counselling and psychotherapy and prepares students for employment in the mental health field.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 90 credits from a Level 3 qualification such as A Levels or BTECs, or
  • If you are a mature learner (aged 21+), prior relevant work experience and additional qualifications will be considered.

For mature learners, the entry requirements also include:

  • A Personal Statement (500 words)
  • English Language Test with a minimum 60% score (equivalent to IELTS 5.5)
  • Maths Test (Score 50%)
  • Completion of a SAPE Assessment (Screening for Accreditation of Prior Experience)
  • Attendance at an Interview
